The framework for Kid Kombat is complete. I made the switch from DirectDraw to Direct3D and let me tell you, it was a very wise choice. First of all, I feel up to date with DirectX for the first time ever. I'm using the latest functions, classes, and setups, which is nice because if I have any problems people can help me right away without having to remember coding experiences from 5 years ago.
The framework that I created is very clean, and very useable. Props to Jonathan Harbour, he did a great job in Beginning Game Programming of teaching a simple, yet elegant gaming framework. I will probably use the shell that I've created for the rest of my 2d days.
I expect a not fun but playable demo of Kid Kombat at the end of this weekend. Marc and I are meeting tomorrow and this weekend and we should have keyboard input, collisions, and projectiles coded by then.
