Change of Plans!

Right after I posted yesterday I found my coveted disc! It contained the source code and graphics to the game i made back in the summer of 98 at a DigiPen workshop. Looking back I am really impressed with the quality of game that I produced at that age with almost no experience in game design or programming. I guess that's a testimony to the DP guys at the workshop. I do laugh at myself for how I coded though. Absolutely no naming conventions (all the sprites were Obj1 Obj2 Obj3, etc.) and I didn't have one single comment in any of my code.

Anyway I've already started porting it to DirectX and will post it as soon as it's any form of playable. I am leaving the game as close to its original form as possible, if I feel like it I will do a modded version at another time.

Big thanks to the DigiPen guys. The summer workshop of 98 kicked much ass. In two weeks they had about 50 highschool juniors creating their own original games. Some were obviously better then others (Graphics, Gameplay, and Themes included I'd like to think mine was at the top of the list).

There was one kid who had a pong game up in the first few hours of the workshop and then spent the next two weeks modding it. That was an intense game of pong. You could do super slams, ball stalls, shoot rockets at the other dudes, and the ball was a spinning head of the instructors at the workshop. I'm pretty sure that kid is making bank for some gaming company right now.

I also have to thank Chad Taylor. Chad was a good friend of mine for those two weeks. Obviously an art guy who signed up for the wrong workshop, he spent the two weeks of class drawing ducks and nuclear power plants in Paint. Unfortunately I'm bad at keeping in contact with people so I never spoke to him again. Which is a shame cause our group had a lot of fun watching bond during lunch and playing way too many games when we should have been creating them (I guess that habit stuck for me).

Edit: I forgot to talk about the game. Duck Slaughter is a Mortal Kombat meets Duck Hunt game. A nuclear power plant dumps toxic sludge in a nearby lake, mutating the ducks into killer poop bombers with horns. Your goal is to shoot them down as they fly across the screen. Careful, if you give them the chance they will slaughter your entire family and poop on the corpses.
