Sites Done, New Hobbies
The website is functionally done. I added the template to all of the pages and finished all of the game projects that have been completed. There is a few more things I would like to do with the site as a learning experience, but for now I will consider it pretty much complete. Go check it out if you haven't already. In fact, if you've visited it anytime before right now, i am guaranteeing that it has changed.
Now that I have a site cataloging all my projects and with clear navigation, there's not much more use for this blogspot page outside of the actual journal. I am thinking sometime soon I might move the blog so it posts to my actual site, that way you can just go to my site to get updates instead of having to go to two places.
As for games, TTBSSSL is coming along. Haven't gotten any assetts yet and I tend to get bored at the stage where the game mechanics are completed and I'm still using programmer art. The new add-on project for the workshop that had me do Console Combat is up. It's a lot more complex and involves multiple rooms with directions and items on the ground (single player MUD basically). I'm not sure if I'm going to try it now or not. While it would definitely help my programming and design, it takes a lot of time and doesn't show well to other people (no one wants to play a single player text based game). I would use the extra time to either finish up TTBSSSL, start on a new personal project, or spend some extra time getting into some new hobbies I just developed.
Since I started working on my site I've been obsessed with web programming/design. There are soooo many jobs in Charlotte for web developers. I want to do some stuff on my own to get some experience doing web development so I can maybe apply for a junior position if one opened up. That being said, I've been spending a good amount of time learning about PHP, MYSQL, and hopefully soon ASP.NET,C#,and SQL Server. I'm going to be using my site as a testing ground to do some projects that will be good experience. I'm planning on starting with a login script that allows you to view photos of me based on your user access. That would allow my family to view photos of us, while keeping internet predators at bay! After that, I might venture to create a shopping cart where you can view things and then buy and checkout using play money.
And for some reason I've been obsessed with building a small model of a trebuchet. I was going to start working on it, and then I got feature creep (yes it exists in personal lives too). I wanted to give my trebuchet a motor and have it be remote controlled. Then I realized that to do that I would need to learn about electronics. Then I started thinking about all the cool things I would make if I knew about electronics. Then I remembered I know nothing about electronics. Then I went to Radio Shack and bought a beginning electronics kit (the kind with a solderless breadboard and 500 little springs attached to LED's,Speakers,Photoresistors,etc.). I'm having fun learning and making pointless projects on the kit. I haven't had any ideas for my first homemade project yet, but it will be coming soon. Maybe a mini-megaphone or something.
After starting all these new projects and hobbies I started to get overwhelmed. So I'm just going to try to remain calm, work on everything a little bit every day, and push on until I see results.
